The works in the “Reprogress” series are about civilization, and specifically about the city. These works show the cycle of the rise and fall of civilization. Or the fall and rise of civilization, as the observant viewer will discover.
The use of steel in buildings was a major step forward in the building of cities. In the works the steel symbolizes ingenuity and achievement. Steel needs a lot of maintenance as rust can weaken structures and in time destroy them. In the work, the rust symbolizes the ultimate end of the city.
However, there are metals that do not decay. Gold and silver symbolize the revival and the invention of new applications within a civilization and the cycle which promises of resurrection of the city.
